Our Schools
The Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy now provides support to 34 schools. QMEA started in 2005 with 18 schools with the original group of schools selected as part of a ‘hub style’ model. Based on industry input, QMEA changed its operational style to a regional model. Each region is made up of a cluster of schools and serviced by a QMEA Project Implementation Field Officer (PIFO). The PIFO works directly with schools through the QMEA supported key teacher program.
New schools are brought into the Academy as requested by industry partners and reflect the growth areas of the minerals and energy industry. The recent growth of coal seam gas is an example of this growth and the inclusion of a large number of schools from the Surat Basin and more recently the addition of 3 new schools to the Central South Region – Chanel College, Gladstone SHS and Tannum Sands SHS.
