QMEA Annual Award Event
Don’t miss the event this year – 6 & 7 March 2012
QMEA’s annual award event runs across two days and is packed with a number of different activities. Principals, teachers and students from its 34 academy schools travel to Brisbane and have the opportunity to engage with our industry sponsors.
Upon arrival for this event, the students divide up into two different groups. Students interested in pursuing a tertiary (university) pathway for a professional career are taken to one of our leading universities for a tour, talks and practical activities. Students interested in pursuing a trade or technical pathway through further training and/or employment, are taken to Skills Tech at Acacia Ridge to help them understand the career pathways available.
On the second day, the event starts with the Award Breakfast where QMEA recognise the work of teachers, other staff and students. Prizes presented include the QMEA Outstanding Teacher Award, several QMEA Teacher Recognition Awards, three student scholarships for university bound students and three more scholarships for students looking to start an apprenticeship or study a vocational education and training program.
After the breakfast, teachers and students have the opportunity to visit two different head offices of our sponsor companies. During this visit, company personnel present an overview of the company and talk about different jobs and career entry into the resources sector. From here, all participants return to the Queensland Resources Council building for a casual lunch before heading home.
