QMEA PROJECTS

Indigenous SAT applications – QMEA schools only

QMEA is working with its sponsor companies to support the employment and training of  school-based apprenticeships or traineeships (SATs) positions for indigenous young people from its Academy schools. The QMEA will assist to broker the arrangements on behalf of its industry partners.

Employers can be involved with SATs via one of several options:

  • be the direct employer
  • be a host employer via a group training organistion or
  • sponsor a position with a local employer, contractor or supplier.

For interested students, work with your school representative to complete an application. Download the kit and send in the application form. Students who can demonstrate regular attendance at school, consistent subject results and involvement in extra-curricular and external activities will be invited to participate in QMEA’s annual recruitment event.

QMEA’s approach focuses on:

  • networking with schools and in particular Indigenous Education Workers
  • profiling Indigenous young people by working closely with schools and increasing registrations on QMEA’s database
  • brokering education, training and employment arrangements with industry partners.

QMEA’s Indigenous Strategic Plan 2009-2012 outlines the approach that QMEA is using to improve the engagement of Indigenous young people in education, training and employment particularly in regards to the minerals and energy sector workforce.
